How are you spending your Sunday? (08/29/10)

(Atheists have Sundays too, we just tend to sleep in. Almost every Sunday, I post about how I plan to spend – or just spent – my day.)

My daughters and I have landed parts in the next children’s play at the theatre where we volunteer, and the first read-through of the script is later this afternoon.

While we’re there, we plan to meet up with a theatre friend of ours that we haven’t seen in a while, and have a few adventures today. Maybe we’ll go to the beach or the park and goof around for a while.

How are you spending your Sunday? (01/03/10)

(Atheists have Sundays too, we just tend to sleep in. Every Sunday, I post about how I plan to spend – or just spent – my day.)

It’s the first Sunday of 2010, and it’s very cold and extremely windy outside, so that rules out fixing the gutter that has come loose again. I’m hoping the wind will let up enough to keep it from falling down any further.

I have some creative projects to work on today – painting sets for a children’s show that we’re doing at the theatre where I volunteer, and rehearsing for the same show later today, plus I have to draw an illustration for the cover of the playbills. After all of that, I may have some time to relax at home and play some Rock Band with the family.

How are you spending your Sunday? (12/27/09)

(Atheists have Sundays too, we just tend to sleep in. Before I took a hiatus, I made a point to make a post almost every Sunday about how I plan to spend – or just spent – my day.)

It’s the first Sunday after Christmas, so I’ll probably spend some time cleaning up around the house a bit, and playing some of our new videogames with our youngest daughter (I’m really looking forward to trying out Beatles Rock Band!)

Our oldest is visiting with a friend and her family. They are believers, so she’ll probably attend church with them this morning (they may even be there as I type this), and come home afterwards to tell me what happened there.

Yes, you heard correctly – I allow my daughters’ friends to take them to the church of their choice on Sundays (or Saturdays, if that’s when they recognize the sabbath). I think it’s a good experience for them to see what goes on in a church firsthand, and we always have a good discussion about their experience afterwards (even if their experience wasn’t so good).

Usually, their reaction to it is relief that we don’t make them get early and sit through it every Sunday, but our oldest has been pondering the church experience a lot lately. She is particularly concerned about the way that very young children are indoctrinated and told what to think.

And that’s when I was certain that letting them go to church was a good idea.

How are you spending your Sunday? (06/07/09)

The grass is getting a bit long, so I’ll probably push the mower around the yard for a good part of the day. My youngest daughter and I planted some vegetable plants in the garden yesterday, but we were too worn out to tidy up afterwards, so I’ll probably take care of that as well.

Other than that, I’ve got more writing to do (I slacked off a bit this past week) and preparations for our family trip in a couple of weeks.

How are you spending your Sunday? (5/31/09)

Atheists have Sundays, too. We just don’t get up as early, as a rule.

Since this blog is about understanding atheists better, I’ve decided to make a post almost every Sunday about how I plan to spend (or just spent) my day.

So far, I’ve been enjoying coffee and a couple episodes of Dead Like Me with A. Later, I’ve got some writing to do, a little bit of artwork for a friend’s online project, and I’m hoping have enough time to sand and paint the patio furniture.

If the rain holds out, I may go outside and spend some time with my sketchbook.

And that’s my Sunday.

I am an atheist, a person who does not believe in the existence of any gods.

Many people don't know a lot about atheists, and have questions about them. In this blog, I do my best to answer them, to help build an understanding between atheists and theists.

Do you have a question? You can post it in the comments to any of my blog entries, and I will do my best to answer it in a new entry.
